Unicode is, in a nutshell, a system by which writing can be stored as numbers, in a way that computers can read and display. It is overseen by the The Unicode Consortium, which is also, as a result, the organization responsible for design, consideration, and approval of new emoji.
Because the Unicode standard aims to be comprehensive, it includes a number of different types of special versions of the normal 26-letter Latin alphabet we all know and love. Most of them are intended for mathematical use, for writing different sorts of variables and constants; others are intended for phonetic writing, or for compatibility with Asian languages. As it turns out, many of these alternative sets of letters include the complete alphabet, both upper- and lowercase. As a result, we can sort of use and abuse them to be able to have what appear to be different font styles on websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram that do not allow you to customize your font.
Why did you make this?
There are a lot of novelty sites out here that offer similar services, but all of them are straight-up cancerous. They often take like 30 seconds to fully load because of all the ads and extraneous javascript, probably have malware running in the background stealing your CPU cycles for Bitcoin mining or to power a botnet, and are just generally hideous examples of the worst of the web.
So I set out to duplicate their functionality, but without any of the BS.
How did you make this?
Pure HTML, CSS and Javascript. None of the code to this site is obfuscated or hidden and is to be considered open-source, so take a look around and use any of it you please.
How do I use it?
It's not hard—just start typing and every possibility should show up at once. If nothing happens, it means you don't have Javascript enabled (in which case I don't know how you're reading this), or perhaps have extremely outdated software and/or hardware.
I really like typing like a fancy boy. What else you got for me?
Why not try the Longeßifier
This site was hand-coded with tender, loving care by Todd, because every other site out there like it sucks.
